World Records: Beer Edition

We’ve all had that moment… “I wonder if I am the first person to do this?” No. You are not. Especially when it comes to beer. There is always at least one person in the world who has tried it at one point in time.

Before you run to the fridge and grab a six-pack (or multiple), remember that you will likely never be able to open a bottle with a chainsaw, nor will you ever be able to balance multiple kegs on your head. Without further ado, we give you some of the craziest beer related world records from Guinness World Records.

Bartending: 

As of July of 2013, Angie MacLean was the oldest living bartender in the world. At 98 years old, MacLean worked full-time in a café in Bridgeport, Connecticut. She started bartending at the age of 17, and has continued to work for 8 hours a day, six days a week well into her nineties.

Brewing:

BrewDog in Scotland created “The End of History”, which was the strongest beer ever sold with an alcohol volume of 55%. The bottles were sold for $1,129 when packaged inside of a taxidermied squirrel. If squirrels weren’t your style, you could have bought one of the last bottles of “The End of History” for $806 in 2010.

Balancing:

In June of 1998, in Los Angeles, California, John Evans balanced 11 empty beer kegs on his head for a total of 10 seconds. In 2002, Evans balanced 235 pint glasses of beer on his head for a total of 13 seconds while attending the Guinness festival in Germany.

Bottle Opening:

In June of 2014, Floridian John Nicholson opened 18 beer bottles in one minute. Nicholson shattered only two bottles during his attempt, which were not counted toward the world record.

Burping:

Elissa Cagnoni of Italy achieved the loudest recorded burp in June of 2009 at the Hard Rock Beer festival in Reggiolo, Italy. Her burp was recorded at 107.0 decibels. In case you were wondering, the record for the longest burp ever recorded is held by Michele Forgione, also of Italy. Michele’s burp was 1 minute, 13 seconds, and 57 milliseconds long.

Bottle Collecting:

Ron Werner, of Carnation, Washington, currently holds the record for the largest collection of beer bottles. In January of 2012, Werner’s collection totaled 25,866 bottles. He started collecting at the age of 14, and adds an average of 1,000 beer bottles to the collection every year.
